A small amount of sets were issued in 1968, as Mattel was still testing the market to see how they would fare. The cases proved to be a winner, as collectors scrambled to find safe storage for their jewel-colored cars. These cases sell fairly briskly on the secondary market to this day, but are difficult to find in good condition, as the vinyl would often tear.
