The 2012 year of collecting will go down as one of the more nostalgic ones, as the years pass. Mattel paid homage to some notable brands such as NASA's Mars Rover Curiosity, which landed on Mars on 6 August 2012, the "Spin King" model, which was also a Shane Warne limited edition in Australia, the K.I.T.T. Trans Am from the 80's hit show "Knight Rider," The Bat from "The Dark Knight Rises," the Mystery Machine from the "Scooby Doo" cartoon, Red Bird and Minion Pig from the insanely popular "Angry Birds" video game and the DW-1...a last-minute, sentimental addition to the line in memory of Indy driver Dan Wheldon, who tragically passed away after a 15-car wreck in Las Vegas on 16 October 2011. Quoted values are for CARDED, NM examples. Cards less than NM will obviously command a lesser value than listed, depending on overall condition. Note that the NCHWA utilizes a pricing method called "Star Value©." Instead of specific dollar values, each car will be assigned a Star Value© to indicate rarity and potential price range. There are simply too many variables to place a "set" value on any model, so a range will be used instead to indicate where that particular model may fall on the secondary price scale. A +/- indicates where on that scale the value is approximated, while a number by itself would indicate the value falls in the middle of the Star Value. This is also an easy quick-glance method to determine rarity; the higher the number, the rarer the car. The value chart will be placed at the bottom of each page. |
